Collapse Manifesto

You may be asking yourself who are Keath and Ceridwen and why do I care? And that's a very fine question. (Unless you're our parents or something, in which case it's just mean!) Well, Keath and Ceridwen are self proclaimed technomads. We are sort of modern day gypsies, or homeless vagabonds with computers. We sold our home in May 2005 and, for a while, we lived in a van. By choice. Sort of full-time RVers but without the RV. Then, in May 2006, we decided that as corny as Home is Where You Park It signs are, it applied to us, so we bought an RV. So now we're just good ol' full time RVers. Except we're not really all that old either. We're not exactly 18, but we're not close to retirement yet either. We digress. You asked why you should care about us. That's up to you. You found us. Hopefully you'll find our travels interesting. Maybe they'll inspire you to do something you've always dreamed of. Just one rule: don't stalk us. Call first.

You may be asking yourself how do I read about Keath and Ceridwen's travels? The answer to that, my friend, is to simply scroll down. We'll post a blurb on each "leg" of our travels, with the more lengthy/interesting ones linking to a more detailed journal. The most recent is always on top. Just click on the title, the photo, or any of those little "click here" links to read on. We're not guaranteeing that each leg will be the same type of journal, but hopefully the layout/interface/etc will improve with each one.

You may be asking yourself how do I contact Keath and Ceridwen? Well, if you know us, call us. If you don't know us, e-mail us to say "Hi!" If you see us (or, more likely, Vantom and Zoomba) at a campground or rest area, approach with caution; we're somewhat skittish around the hyperfriendly.

October 27, 2006: We will be attending the Grand Slambovian Hillbilly Pirate Ball in Northampton, Mass this Saturday. You should too!
Also, in case you're new to the site, the current posts are here, currently in a chaotic mess that will probably last until the end of the year or so. We try to post weekly. Ish.

October 6, 2006: The Union Leader, a newspaper out of Manchester, NH, published a set of articles today about RVers with New Hampshire ties (and the challenges of a full-timer "living" in New Hampshire, for those of you wondering why we're South Dakotians now). One of the articles was all about us. As a correction to the web version, we didn't actually write the article, but we did write the Guide to Living on the Road. (We being Ceridwen.) We also clearly did not explain the whole concept of Keath's job very well, but that's just as well, since we don't want to violate any corporate privacy policies or anything. Anyway, we haven't seen the print edition, but it sounds like a full page thing.
For those who want to know, the photo on the web article is from Big Sky, Montana. And since they'll probably pull the links from their home page tomorrow, if you want to read the other articles, we'll save you from having to search: Larry & Nancy | Dick and Diana | Eric and Tina | Ginny and Wayne | Keath and Ceridwen

September 22, 2006: That's a lot of little notice/alert things. Let's move them here. Ahhh. Much better.

Live in the Now!

September 17, 2006 onwards . . .

The launch of a new beginning. A timely tale of what we're up to relatively close to when we're up to it. No attempt shall be made to post daily, because, quite frankly, some days we sit on our duffs and stare at the trees. Or walk around the same trails we hit the day before. Or other things not worth telling you about. Unless we're really bored and feel like recounting every hour of the day. We'll try to refrain from that.

The plan is to kick start things with current posts and fill in the journals below throughout the fall. You get to witness, before your very eyes, the transformation of this web site from a quickly thrown together way to keep in touch with relatives to an ongoing fulltimers' journal at the same time as witnessing our attempts to transition from the always-on-vacation hippies-in-a-van mentality to actually living a fulltiming life. Let's steal from the state of Oregon and call that a continuous traveller life. We don't want to be tied down to RVing just because it's what we do now.

Back on the Road! - coming soon . . .

May 30, 2006 through September 16, 2006

We've got a home, we've got a plan, we've got an agenda. Places to go, things to get done by certain dates, and not a single thing that can stop us. Except, of course, for The Curse of Possum Junction!!! (Insert B-Movie dun-dun-dun! here)

The moral of the story is that plans in motion tend to stay in motion and it's always possible to enjoy where you are, even if a week ago you didn't plan on being there. Life is like that. Malleable. So are we. And so we made our way from Kentucky to Minnesota to South Dakota to Wyoming to Colorado to Montana to Washington. Which is exactly the way we planned it all along. Ayup.

Housebuying for the Homeless - coming soon . . .

May 14, 2006 through May 30, 2006

If you're going to be a homeless vagabond for longer than a few months, you need to have a home. Right. So we found the home we wanted, learned that the worst place to buy it is New York, found a significantly better deal in Kentucky, and headed on down that way.

London, England and Points about Wales, UK - coming soon . . .

April 29, through May 14, 2006

A little bit of work in London, a little bit of backpacking vacation through the north of Wales. In short: a little taste of the outside world before returning to the mainland US to continue our voyages on the road.

In the fall of 2003 we did a full on tourist vacation to London, so our adventures there were a bit less exciting. But we had a jam packed week in Wales with nothing but transit passes and backpacks and there's tons more to see on the next edition of "Keath and Ceridwen go to Wales." We also selected what is quite possibly the worst possible day for tourists to visit Cardiff.

Interval - coming soon . . .

March 28 - April 29, 2006

A little siesta between islands. Nothing too exciting, but if you like tales of the highways and byways of the northeast, you'll be in hog heaven reading these interval notes when we publish them.

Kauai County, Hawaii - coming soon . . .

February 5, 2006 through March 29, 2006

After a "relaxing" trip up and down the eastern seaboard to spend the holidays with family and a three week stint of on-site work (gotta keep that job, eh?), we dropped Vantom off for a much needed rest and hopped a jet to Hawaii. Actually, since we planned the trip to Hawaii before Keath knew he would be in Philly, we had an exciting six-airport (PHL->MHT->ORD->PHX->HON->LIH), three day trip out to Hawaii, but we got there all the same.

We spent two months on the Garden Island of Kauai, staying in a rental cottage in Anahola. We had planned to hop over to the Big Island of Hawaii for the first two weeks of April, but the worst weather Hawaii has seen in over 100 years caused us to change our plans and flee to the mainland at the end of March.

Interval

October 21, 2005 - February 4, 2006

A brief rundown of what we did between October and February. Namely, Nashville, Atlanta, Virginia Beach, New Jersey, New York, New Hampshire, Denver, New Jersey (again), Atlanta (again), SoNoCarCo, and Philadelphia. What's SoNoCarCo? You'll need to read the interval notes to find out.

Where Are Keath and Ceridwen?

May 25, 2005 through October 21, 2005

This is the site that started it all; Concord, NH to Las Vegas, NV in a van. More specifically, Concord, NH to Las Vegas, NV in Vantom, by way of Canada, Atlanta, South Dakota, Washington, San Diego, and Santa Fe. In short, a leisurly 149 day tour of 31 U.S. States over 17,537 miles of highways and byways, stopping at 46 National Parks, Memorials, Trails, and Monuments, as well as countless National Forests and State Parks and a good number of cities, towns, and municpalities along the way. (Yes, we know Canada is not a state. 31 U.S. states, plus Ontario, Canada. We crossed over at Niagara Falls, ON.) Read all about it.

We actually kept up with a post a day for this trip, though not necessarily posted the day it happened. (We tried, but that's a lot of posting when you're on the move that much.) Not every day is all that exciting, but there's tons of photos for your enjoyment. We used Blogger to make posting a little easier and so we could go back later and update the style a bit to become part of a larger site. Hopefully, everything in there works.
